Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara movie Review

ONCE UPON AY TIME IN MUMBAI DOBAARA Saved By Star Akshay Kumar

Pluses:

The clear winner of the movie is Rajat Aroraa who has put so much effort into writing punchy dialogues of the film. Sonakshi Sinha fits well in her role and justifies it. Couple of songs are very good.Pitobash Tripathy once again portrays excellent performance as Dedh Tang. Akshay Kumar gets all the clap and seetis

Minuses:

Imran Khan fits very poor in the bill. His urban dialect misfits with the punchy dialogues that he absolutely can’t carry. The well-written dialogues have been wasted on a plot of love triangle with a backdrop of underworld. The backdrop of underworld does not impact or contribute to movie in any way.The biggest disappointment in the film is its climax which may be trying to leave a room for its sequel but leaves the audience puzzled. Milan fails big time as director

Critic Rating:
2.5/5

Business Rating:
3.5/5

Verdict:

Watch it for Akshay Kumar and dialogues

Detail Analysis:

If it is a sequel and that too Akshay Kumar starrer then film has to  be big. OUATIMD is much awaited film and releasing on big Independence Day. Film has ensemble star cast consisting of Akshay Kumar, Imran Khan, Sonakshi Sinha,Mahesh Manjerkar and Sonali Bendre. Vidya Balan comes for 2 second in middle of Tayyab Ali song.

Film has simple plot and it is a complete love triangle. There is only a faint backdrop of underworld and there is not much action or gang war which take place. Imran's character (Aslam) brought to underworld by dreaded don Akshay Kumar ( Shoaib) and ultimately both fall in love with Jasmine (Sonakshi Sinha). How this love turns into war is the rest of the film. But its underwhelming climax which robs you of the fun.

Performance wise Akshay Kumar is star and he carries the film on his shoulder. Every thing keeps falling around him from actors to script but he holds his ground. He plays Shoaib with all finesse and aura but the whole character and over written dialogues leave him gasping. Sample few dialogues -

- Doodh mein neebo jo daalta hai paneer uska hota hai

- Devar ke din jab maut aati hai to use bhabhi achi lagne lagti hai

- jab main tumse mila tha tab tum mere ghuton tak aate the, par aa j main tumhe tumhe tumahare ghuton pe laa doonga

- tumari aankhein mujhe police ki headlight ki yaad dilati hain

- yeh pyar ka panga hai ismein pyar se kaam nahin chalta

Watch out for Akshay's act in very last scene, what an intense shot! Imran Khan is a disaster and  completely looks out of the place throughout. His dialogue delivery is poor and so is his whole caricature look. Sonakshi gives some real fresh air in this over laden emotional drama with her grounded mature act. Mahesh Manjerkar and Sonali Bendre is decent plus other supporting cast is good.

Music is average to say the least where "Yeh Tune Kya Kiya" works big time but other songs just go through the motion. Film suffers from very poor editing and post interval portion is a big drag. Writing is shining point of the film but over dose spoils the recipe. There is punch in every dialogue which after some tome start getting on to nerves. Cinematography is decent and action lacks novelty.

But it is director Milan Lutharia who is the real culprit as he completely goes wrong in every department, be it choosing a love story for underworld sequel or miscasting Imran. This is one film which he would like to forget after successful TDP and OUATIM.

Overall this is a film which will take a good opening riding on holiday weekend but film will find it tough to sustain beyond weekend. It is only Akshay Kumar and dialogues which save this one from sinking.
